 Reading is Thinking

From day 1, I taught my students that "Reading is Thinking". If they weren't thinking during Read to Self time, then they weren't really reading. Thinking critically about text in my classroom looked like this: students were expected to think within the text, about the text, and beyond the text. Critical literacy is simply taking a closer look at the text and using higher order thinking strategies to analyze and investigate the text.
